During a reception July 31, 1937 showing mayor Josef Jöhle wearing the party uniform and chain of office, state commissioner Gustav Wöhrle, SS Senior leader Walter Stein (black SS uniform), District Administrator Carl Engelhardt, Egon Groeneveld (in army uniform), and local Nazi group leader Willi Renz.
The Nazi-era war memorial on Luisenplatz (formerly Horst-Wessel-Platz) remains as it was when first inaugurated May 22, 1938. As late as the 1970s it was used as the site for former SS members to rally and honour their comrades of the Waffen-SS.
The former SS-Kaserne then-and-now, with strategically-placed windows replacing the Nazi eagle.
